Walking on Eggs: the Astonishing Discovery of Thousands of Dinosaurs Eggs in the Badlands of Patagonia, by Luis M. Chiappe and Lowell Dingus

This months book of the month is "Walking on Eggs: the Astonishing Discovery of Thousands of Dinosaur Eggs in the Badlands of Patagonia" by Luis M. Chiappe and Lowell Dingus. This entire book is based on the study and research done at a single location in Patagonia. Chiappe and Dingus both discuss various theories and ideas they looked into after making their discovery of these dinosaur eggs. The first paragraph of the introduction sets the stage:

"Eggs were everywhere. As we strode across the mud-cracked flats exposed beneath the banded ridges of crimson rock that radiated under the searing Patagonia sun, crew members began kneeling down to examine small, dark gray fragments of rounded rock with a curious texture. Picking up these chunks for closer inspection, we could see that the surface was sculpted into hundreds of small bumps and depressions. We knew immediately from the distinctive texture that we had found something startling - dinosaur eggs"

This discovery led to many questions, and both Chiappe and Dingus attempt to answer them as they write the book.

The appeal to this book is how Chiappe and Dingus guide you through their discovery, beginning to end. They take the reader through the steps of the find, and then through the process of discovering what it all means. They don't bog down their story with heavy scientific lingo, either. They present in an easy to understand format, and do a really good job of being descriptive. While you're reading this book, you feel as if you're right there alongside them, making the discoveries with them, and thats a very good thing. They both do a good job of bringing this story alive, and I highly recommend this book to anyone with a passing interest in dinosaurs and scientific discovery.
