Berkelium gets its name from the University of Berkely, where it was first discovered. Berkelium is an artificial element that does not occur on Earth (but might have at some time in the past). It is radioactive, and none of its isotopes are stable. IT has no known economic uses, and so little of it is ever seen at one time that not much else is known about it, other than how to produce it, and that it forms compounds with a few other elements.
